Eagles Rout Royals, 11-1

Box Score

BRIDGEWATER, Va. – The Bridgewater College men's soccer team dropped Regent University with a score of 11-1 on Tuesday afternoon.

The Eagles are beginning to get into groove in the few games, having now won 7-0 and 11-1 in the span of a week, and three straight games. The team has also had an ODAC player of the week during that time span and have now have two players with hat tricks.

BC wasted no time getting on the board in this contest, as at the 2:35 mark the rookie David Franco scored his sixth goal of the year. That now makes goals in three straight games for Franco. The play was set up by a perfect pass from Alex Martinez.

Just two minutes later Parker Richard scored off a free kick to make it 2-0. And just four minutes later in the 8th minute, Sam Franklin scored his first of three consecutive goals for the Eagles. This one was on a pass from Franco to the right foot of Franklin who was posted up in the box and drilled it home.

Bridgewater continued to have good chances but took that 3-0 lead into the half. They produced 26 shots in the first half and had seven corners.

The offense opened up even more in the second half. Bridgewater began to use their speed, as well as had several perfect through balls that they were able to deposit.

Just under two minutes into the second half, Franklin scored his second, on a feed from Martinez. Just ten minutes later at the 56:23 mark, he scored his hat trick goal as the Franco/Franklin connection combined again for a goal and an assist.

In the 58th minute, Franco earned another assist, as his corner kick from the left side found the head of Eric Ramirez, the score becoming 6-0. In the 63rd minute, Oscar Garcia sent a perfect through ball from the middle of the field to the foot of Martinez, who deposited his first goal of the game to make it a seven-score lead.

The Royals were able to get a goal just thirty seconds later, as Steve Ocon ripped a shot that went into the net.

The Eagles utilized the long through ball again as Richard from the defensive zone dropped a dime right onto the foot of Lestath Savage who dribbled towards the net and beat the goalie to make it 8-1.

Goals 7-9 all looked very similar, as again the Eagles dropped a pass right through the midfield, a perfect through ball from Savage onto the foot of Marvin Perez who scored his second goal of the year, now 9-1.

BC put the icing on the cake in the final five minutes as Trevon Phillips, and Jack Leopold each had unassisted tallies to finish off the offensive rout.

Twelve different Eagles earned points in this contest, including Franklins six from his hat trick, and Franco's five.

Bridgewater has now won three straight and will return to action tomorrow night as they get back on the road to travel to Averett. Kick off is set to begin at 6 p.m.
