Box Score HARRISONBURG, Va. – The Bridgewater College women's soccer team defeated local rival Eastern Mennonite, 4-1 on Thursday afternoon.
After being rained out yesterday, action resumed at EMU. In the 8th minute, Ashley Sabatino punted a ball into the box off a throw in, the goalkeeper couldn't control the shot, and Skyler Daum was able to put back the rebound to take the early lead.
Bridgewater added onto its lead at the 28:16 mark when Hanna Randolph scored her second goal of the year. Randolph hustled down the middle of the field and created a break away, putting the ball into the net to make it a 2-0 game.
The Eagles would score their third goal of the half in the 42nd minute, when Lauren Pion headed a perfect crosser pass from the right side into the box by Angel Finch.
BC led 3-0 at the break, they held a 7-0 shot advantage, and a 6-1 advantage in corners.
EMU would make it a 3-1 game in the 57th minute, on a goal from Laura Troyer.
At the 61-minute mark, the Eagles would finish off the Royals netting their fourth goal of the game. Sabatino scored her fourth goal of the year after picking off a goal kick near midfield and sniping a high-left shot over the goalkeeper's head with her left foot.
The Eagles defense was again stellar, allowing only two shots on net. They outshot the royals 19-2 and held a 9-1 advantage in corner kicks.
Next up for Bridgewater they will return home on Saturday Sept. 25 to take on Mary Washington at 2 p.m.
