Women's Basketball Comeback Falls Short Against Generals

Box Score

BRIDGEWATER, Va. - The Eagles nearly erased a 20-point first half deficit, falling just short of the comeback against the Washington & Lee Generals on Thursday night in Nininger Hall.

The Basics

  • Final Score: Bridgewater 60, Washington & Lee 69
  • Records: Bridgewater (6-7, 3-3 ODAC), Washington & Lee (10-3, 7-0 ODAC)

How It Happened

  • Bridgewater took an early 10-4 advantage in the first quarter before the Generals stormed back to take a 12-10 lead. A costly foul on a Washington & Lee three point attempt put the Generals up 15-10 heading into the second quarter
  • The Generals offense came alive in the second quarter, scoring 24 points compared to the Eagles 11. Bridgewater committed eight turnovers in the quarter to enter the locker room down 39-21
  • Washington & Lee scored first out of the half to make it 41-21. That was when Bridgewater slowly started to find their rhythm, chipping away at the lead. Bridgewater outscored Washington & Lee 14-3 to end the third and enter the fourth down just nine points at 50-41. Jaden Alsberry grabbed three offensive rebounds in the frame to go with 10 points
  • Despite the momentum gained, the teams played point-for-point in the fourth quarter with the first half deficit being too much for Bridgewater to come back from

  • Erika Nettles added 12 points and seven rebounds while Julia Williams had 10 points, three rebounds, two assists and two steals
  • Mary Ruth Shifflett filled the stat sheet with six points, six rebounds, seven assists and three steals
