How It Happened

  • Erika Nettles started the offense for Bridgewater in the first quarter with a successful and-one opportunity three minutes into the contest to make it 3-2 BC. Jaden Alsberry posted back-to-back layups in between Guilford buckets to put Bridgewater up by one at 7-6 with five minutes to go. Successful free throws from Nettles and Reagan Maynard gave Bridgewater a 10-9 before an Alsberry basket put Bridgewater up 12-10 at the end of the first
  • The Eagles went on a roll to start the second quarter, going on a 6-3 run to open the frame. After three scoreless minutes, a Guilford layup closed the Bridgewater lead to three at 18-15 before a successful Quakers and-one opportunity tied the game at 18-18. Three consecutive Quaker layups put the home team up 24-18 heading into the locker room
  • Bridgewater continued their trend of strong third quarters, outscoring Guilford 21-14 to erase the halftime deficit and gain a one point avantage at 39-38 entering the fourth quarter
  • Guilford regained a 42-41 edge before Nettles intercepted a Quaker pass and was fouled on a scoring layup attempt. She completed the old fashioned three point play to give Bridgewater the 44-42 advantage with four minutes to play. The Quakers fouled a driving Noelle Horton who made a free throw to put Bridgewater up by three with two minutes remaining. Guilford advanced the ball on a timeout and added two points with just under a minute to play to cut the Eagles lead to one.
  • A driving Mary Ruth Shifflett was fouled and converted her first free throw attempt for a 46-44 Bridgewater lead. Nettles grabbed the rebound on Shifflett's second attempt and was fouled herself, making both attempts and sealing the 48-44 victory in a thrilling fashion
