Eagles Defeat Panthers in Overtime for Third Straight Win

Box Score

FERRUM, Va. - It took five extra minutes, but the Bridgewater College men's basketball team succesfully picked up their third straight ODAC victory with a 82-74 overtime win at Ferrum.

The Basics

  • Final Score - OT: Bridgewater 82, Ferrum 74
  • Records: Bridgewater (7-8, 3-4 ODAC), Ferrum (5-11, 0-7 ODAC)

How It Happened

  • After a slow start from both teams, Ferrum took a 6-4 edge five minutes into the game. A Will Dunlap three gave Bridgewater a 7-6 edge before a Panther layup gave control back to Ferrum at 7-8
  • An Alec Topper layup gave the lead back to BC, and a Aaron Oates jumper after a steal by Zach Hatter gave Bridgewater a three-point edge, the largest of the game thus far
  • Bridgewater held Ferrum scoreless for the next three minutes of play in a stretch that featured baskets from Topper, Andy Pack and Hatter. It was all Eagles from there as Bridgewater went on a 30-19 run to close the half
  • Ferrum came out strong in the second half, going on a run themselves to cut the Bridgewater lead to just four points five minutes into the period. Despite the shrinking advantage, the Eagles never allowed the Panthers to take more than a two point lead
  • The Panthers tied the game at 64-64 with under three minutes to play when Rashod Smith hit a three pointer to push Bridgewater back up by three. Ferrum answered with a three of their own to tie it back at 67-67. Liam Caswell converted a layup with a minute remaining in regulation before the Panthers grabbed an offensive rebound and putback to tie the game with 48 seconds remaining. Ferrum attempted a jump shot as time expired but could not convert the shot, sending the game to overtime at 69-69
  • The Eagles defense sealed the win overtime, grabbing six rebounds and causing two turnovers. Bridgewater outscored the Panthers 13-5 to escape Ferrum with the 82-74 thrilling overtime win
