Eagles Falter at Hollins

ROANOKE, Va. - The Bridgewater College women's basketball team fell to host Hollins 73-66 on Monday night in Roanoke.

The Basics

  • Final Score: Bridgewater 66, Hollins 73 
  • Records: Bridgewater (7-10, 5-6 ODAC), Hollins (8-7, 4-6 ODAC)

How It Happened

  • Melanie Pick sank a three pointer just 13 seconds into the contest to give Bridgewater an early 3-0 lead. That would be the Eagles only lead of the quarter as Hollins proceeded to go on a 14-4 run to take a 23-21 advantage at the end of the quarter. The Eagles committed seven turnovers in the frame compared to Hollins' three
  • Bridgewater continued to struggle offensively to start the second, shooting just 22.7% from the field compared to Hollins' 45%. Rosemary Pierson sank a shot from behind the arc with just over three minutes to play in the quarter that would be turn out to be Bridgewater's final points of the half to enter the locker room down 25-44. 
  • The Eagles came out strong the third quarter, matching Hollins' with 15 points in the frame to keep the 19 point deficit entering the final period of play
  • Bridgewater played their best quarter of basketball in the fourth led by nine points from Erika Nettles. It was a Nettles jumper that cut the deficit to nine points with just under three minutes to play. Julia Williams made a three pointer off a pass from Noelle Horton to make it 63-69 before Pick floated a jumper in to make at 65-69 with 39 second left in the game. Ultimately, the first half deficit proved to be too much for the Eagles to overcome

  • Nettles had a team high 17 points to go with eight rebounds
  • Jaden Alsberry had a double-double with 12 points and 11 boards
  • Pierson contributed ten points with Pick grabbing 12 rebounds
  • Both teams totaled up 40 rebounds
  • Hollins earned 21 points off of 18 Bridgewater turnovers while the Eagles only added nine points on the same amount of turnovers
