Daymude's Hat Trick Leads Eagles to Victory

BRIDGEWATER, Va. -- Daphne Daymude recorded a hat trick as the Bridgewater College field hockey team earned a 3-1 victory against Virginia Wesleyan in ODAC action on Friday night at the Jopson Athletic Complex.

THE BASICS
Final Score: Bridgewater 3, Virginia Wesleyan 1
Records: Bridgewater 5-8, 2-4 ODAC; Virginia Wesleyan 2-11, 0-6 ODAC

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Bridgewater sent two shots off target early in the first quarter and eventually gained a penalty corner opportunity less than three minutes into the game. Daphne Daymude was able to deflect a shot by Carynn Klingler to open the scoring for the game, 1-0.
  • The lone goal in the first 15 minutes stayed true as BC led after one quarter. In the 22nd minute of the game, the Marlins were awarded a penalty stroke after a scramble for the ball. Lauren Hedspeth's stroke was successful as the game was tied at 1-1.
  • Minutes later, Daymude picked up her second goal of the evening after finding a lose ball and sending it behind the VWU goalie, 2-1.
  • The scoreline held through halftime and into the fourth quarter as the Eagles added one more insurance goal at the 47:50 mark of the contest. It was Daymude's stick, once again, that struck the ball into the cage after a shot on from Kylie Amberger was tipped in.
  • The Marlins had a good scoring opportunity in the waning seconds of the contest after a penalty corner was awarded, but a defensive save by Kelli Mullen kept the score at 3-1, which held to the final whistle.
