Men's Soccer Falls in ODAC Quarterfinals

BRIDGEWATER, Va. – The Bridgewater men's soccer team saw their season come to an end on Saturday as the fell 1-0 to Roanoke in the ODAC Quarterfinals.

Records: Bridgewater 9-6-3 (5-4-1 ODAC), Roanoke 9-6-2 (6-3-1 ODAC)
 
How It Happened
  • The Maroons had an early chance on a corner kick in the second minute but did not manage a shot on net. Cole Dunbar had was able to rifle BC's first shot of the game but found the crossbar.
  • Roanoke was able to get three shots off in a 13 minute span but did not find the net on any of them midway through the opening half. In the 37th minute the Maroons had chances again with a shot on goal that was turned away by Charles Schweinefuss. On the following corner kick RC got a shot off but it went wide of the cage to keep the match scoreless heading to the intermission.
  • In the 53rd minute each team received a yellow card with the one on the Eagles rewarding a free kick to the Maroons. On the kick Liam Camilleri took it straight on goal and got it ast Schweinefuss to break the scoreless knot and put Roanoke ahead 1-0.
  • The Maroons had another chance in the 62nd minute from a shot by Harrison Kraus but Schweinefuss turned it aside. 
  • Bridgewater had chances ate but had two drawn back on offsides calls. Roanoke received a yellow card in the final minute but BC was not able to do much with it with the time left on the clock.
Match Notes
  • Camilleri led all players with four shots with just one on net. Dunbar led that department for BC as he was the only player to register shotswith two but none were on target.
  • Schweinefuss made two stops in the contest on three shots. Zach Behe did not face a shot on goal for Roanoke.
  • Overall, Roanoke held a 13-2 shot advantage. Both defenses dominated the contest with only three shots going on target, all for Roanoke.
  • The Maroons held a healthy 9-0 advantage in corner kicks.
  • The Eagles season comes to a close after totaling nine wins which was the highest for the program since 2018.
