Field Hockey Opens Conference Play with a Win

BRIDGEWATER, Va. -- The Bridgewater College field hockey team opened up ODAC play with a 2-0 shutout victory against Randolph-Macon at the Jopson Athletic Complex on Wednesday night.

THE BASICS
Final Score: Bridgewater 2, Randolph-Macon 0
Records: Bridgewater 4-4, 1-0 ODAC; Randolph-Macon 3-7, 0-1 ODAC

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Eagles wasted no time in getting ahead as Emily Tyler scored less than 90 seconds into the game after a shot from Kylie Amberger was saved and kicked to her stick, 1-0.
  • Tyler added another score six minutes later to double the Bridgewater lead to 2-0, which held through the end of the half.
  • The second half saw Randolph-Macon have a few opportunities to cut into the deficit, including a penalty corner chance late in the third quarter that saw a pair of shots, including one pushed aside by the Eagle goalie Madalyn Miller.
  • The Yellow Jackets held possession for much of the fourth quarter with the visitors grabbing three straight penalty corners, but were not able to do much with any of them as the Bridgewater defense held them to just one show, in the final frame, which went wide.
  • The Eagles also had several changes to add another goal to their tally, but each shot was saved and BC walked away with a 2-0 victory.
MATCH STATS
  • Tyler finished the game with three shots, including the two scores.
  • Amberger and Daphne Daymude also tallied shots that were on target, while Ashley Coleman attemped a shot as well.
  • Miller made three saves in all 60 minutes, while R-MC goalkeeper Kelsey Seiler pushed away four of the six shots she faced.
  • Both teams registered seven shots in the contest, while the Yellow Jackets claimed a 6-1 edge in penalty corners.
