Eagles Downed by Captains on the Road

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- The Bridgewater College volleyball team saw its winning streak come to an end at the hands of Christopher Newport via a 3-0 loss on Friday night.

THE BASICS
Final Score: Christopher Newport 3, Bridgewater 0 (25-17, 25-17, 25-18)
Records: Bridgewater 13-7; Christopher Newport 11-10

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Both teams battled over the first 20 points as neither side could gain an advantage. CNU finally went on a seven-point run to take a 14-9 lead and force a Bridgewater timeout. The Eagles cut down the lead to 15-14 after a kill from Grace Hayes to force a Captains' timeout. Chris. Newport came back out after the timeout and won 10 of the next 13 points to take the set 25-17.
  • The second set was much of the same as the game was deadlocked at 10-10 nearly halfway through the frame. The tail end of a six-point run pushed BC ahead 14-11, which served as the largest lead of the set as the home side rebounded with eight straight points of its own to gain a lead. Bridgewater was able to break the run after a kill from Faith DePew, but the effort fell short as CNU won the second set 25-17 and went up 2-0 in the match.
  • Christopher Newport saw much of the same in the third set as it strolled to a 25-18 win in the final set of the night to walk away with a 3-0 match victory.
