SALEM, Va. – The Bridgewater College men's basketball team fell to Roanoke, 78-60, in ODAC action at the Cregger Center on Wednesday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Maroons got the first basket of the game nearly 90 seconds into the game, but a Shod Smith jumper tied the game just 10 seconds later. From there, RC went on an 11-4 run to assume a 13-6 lead with 15 minutes left in the first half.
- Maleek Richardson drilled a three off an assist from Alec Topper followed by a jumper from Topper put the Eagles within four points with 12:59 to go before the break. A trey from Keiman Dillon and a layup from Landon Hawes kept the game close at 20-16 heading into the under-12 media timeout.
- The Maroons went on a quick run to take an 11-point lead at 29-18 with five minutes left in the first and legged out a 11-point advantage after a three-point play by Justin Kuthan. The Eagles were held without a field goal in the remaining 1:44 as BC trailed 36-25 at the break.
- Roanoke started the second half by stretching its lead to 41-28 before back-to-back three-pointers from Smith, which accounted for six of his 17 second-half points. A 7-0 run from the Maroons that took less than two minutes off the clock pushed the home side's lead to 14 points with 14:32 left in the game.
- Each time the Eagles cut the lead to under 10 points, the Maroons seemed to have an answer as BC could not get a run together. Roanoke led by as many as 19 points on its way to a 78-60 victory.
MATCH STATS
- Smith finished with a game-best 22 points on 8-of-15 shooting from the floor, including 4-of-7 from long range. He also registered a pair of rebounds, five assists and two steals in the loss.
- Topper led the way on the boards with a game-high 15 rebounds. Topper also scored four points and dished out a pair of assists to go with a block and a steal.
- Richardson finished with nine points, while Landon Hawes and Liam Caswell each finished with seven points.
- For the Maroons, Kuthan shot 9-of-14 and led the team with 22 points to go with 11 rebounds and a block. Marcus Morgan and Kasey Draper each finished in double figures with 12 and 11 points, respectively, while Morgan also pulled down seven boards, handed out three assists and had two steals.
- As a team, Bridgewater shot 36.1% from the field, including a 33.3 percent clip from long range. In comparison, Roanoke made 48.3 percent of its shots.
- RC out rebounded the Eagles, 48-33, and were able to put up 44 points in the paint. The Maroons never trailed in the contest.
