BRIDGEWATER, Va. -- The Bridgewater College volleyball team hosted a nonconference quad match in Nininger Hall on Saturday. The Eagles split a pair of matches as they dropped a 3-1 contest to Southern Virginia before earning a 3-2 win against Greensboro.
Bridgewater moves to 7-5 on the season after the day.
In the first match with Southern Virginia, the Eagles were led by
Lisa O'Grady who had 13 kills and swung at an impressive .346 clip. She also recorded four block assists and a pair of digs to add to her stat line.
Kylie Robinson also picked up nine kills to go along with 12 digs and a pair of block assists.
Lauren Nofsinger and
Rachael Meyers finished with seven kills and six kills, respectively, as both players finished with a hitting percentage over .400.Â
Grace Hayes finished the match with 21 assists and 12 digs, while
Ashley Rutherford tallied 15 assists and six digs.
Sophia Stites registered 12 digs in the loss.
In the second match of the day, the Eagles earned a 25-21 win in th efirst set before falling in set two. The squad bounced back for a 25-14 win in the third frame and then eventually won the fifth set, 15-11, to claim the match victory.
O'Grady led the way again with 11 kills after swinging at a .500 clip and added in a pair of digs. Nofsinger and
Faith DePew each landed 10 kills, while Meyers and Robinson downed nine kills each. Robinson also finished with 16 digs with three service aces.
Sarah Kerns pitched in six kills to go with three block assists in the win, while Stites led the game with 28 digs. Hayes paced the team with 25 assists as Rutherford was right behind her with 21 assists.Â
Bridgewater returns to action on Wednesday, September 21, against Ferrum at 7 pm in Nininger Hall.
