FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- The Bridgewater College field hockey team fell, 2-1, to Mary Washington after the game-winning goal was scored in the waning minutes of the contest on Wednesday evening.

Final Score: Mary Washington 2, Bridgewater 1
Records: Bridgewater 0-2; Mary Washington 2-0

How it Happened:

• Mary Washington got on the board first just a minute into the second quarter after putting up nearly 10 shots in the opening period. Emma Bernard scored her fifth goal of the young season, which stood as the only goal for nearly half the game, off a penalty corner attempt for UMW.
• The Eagles tied up the game after the start of the second half. Carynn Klingler tallied her first collegiate goal with an assist to Meredyth Rankin that tied the game just over seven minutes into the second half. 
• The game remained tied for another 20 minutes where UMW was able to break the deadlock with just three minutes left on the clock. Mary Washington came in on a breakaway that formed into a two-on-one situation that it was able to capitalize on to hang on for the victory.

Match Notes:

• Bridgewater first year goalkeeper Madalyn Miller had a stellar performance in the cage as she stopped 14 shots and allowed just two goals. Mary Washington took over 20 shots in the game with 14 being on frame.
• Klingler's goal was her first collegiate goal and point in her short career at Bridgewater.
• Rankin also picked up her first assist of the season.
