LEXINGTON, Va. – The Bridgewater College volleyball team extended its winning streak to nine with a 3-0 sweep against Washington and Lee Wednesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Generals led 6-4 through the first 10 points of the game, but the Eagles were able to go on a 3-0 run ending with an Ashley Rutherford service ace going up one, 7-6. Faith DePew and Rachael Meyers picked up BC's 10th point with a shared block making it 10-8. Late in the set, DePew downed consecutive kills to give Bridgewater a four-point lead, 19-15. WLU ignited a 5-1 run to tie the score up at 20. The Eagles fired back with their own offense with Reagan Stoop on a successful attack to get the team to match point and eventually take the set, 25-22.
- In the second set, the Generals started out on the attack getting to an early 7-3 lead. BC held close with WLU tying the score up 14 all following a Kylie Robinson kill. The two teams traded points with the score being tied a total four times. Bridgewater closed out the set with Gabby Atwell and DePew kills to take the 2-0 match lead.
- The final set saw the Eagles get up 3-0 early which was ended on a Stoop kill assisted by Rutherford. The Generals took their first lead of the set following a kill from Riley Debiec kill, 9-8. With the score tied at 13 later in the set, BC started a run of three to go ahead 16-13. WLU fired back with a 6-1 run to put the team up 19-17. Bridgewater got help from DePew and Atwell on the attack to take a one-point lead, 20-19. The two teams fought all the way to the end, with the Eagles able to come out on top 25-23 and take the match 3-0.
MATCH STATS
- This is the first time since 2019 that BC has had a nine-plus winning streak.
- Stoop chipped in 18 kills leading the team in the category, while DePew picked up 10 kills, and Meyers finished with nine swinging a .400 hitting percentage.
- Rutherford registered 41 of the team's 44 total assist which earned her a new season high, while also surpassing 400 assists on the season.
- Defensively, libero Sophia Stites led with 27 digs, Stoop recorded 21, while Madeline Walker had 16 to end the night.
- Meyers issued four blocks on the night, while teammate DePew followed with three.
