Alsberry Reaches Career Milestone in Win

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - The Bridgewater College women's basketball team rolled past Wilson 80-45 on Saturday as Jaden Alsberry blocked her 100th career shot.

The Basics

Final Score: Bridgewater 80, Wilson 45
Records: Bridgewater 3-2; Wilson 0-3

How it Happened
  • The Eagles opened the game on a 6-0 run as My'la Green, Jaden Alsberry and Abby Freeman found the nylon before Wilson got on the board. After a Phoenix make the BC defense led to offense as a 9-0 run led by five points from Riley Corcoran put BC in front 15-2 as Wilson called a timeout. The Eagles continued to push the run stretching the score to 23-2 before a Phoenix free throw. Bridgewater ended the quarter ahead 27-3 after not allowing a Wilson field goal over the final 7:38.
  • Wilson was held without a field goal for another 5:50 before an and-one cut the BC lead to 30 after eight unanswered points to start the frame. Mallory Nolan and Aylin Humpherys poured it on down the stretch in the second quarter as the two combined for the Eagles final seven points along with a stout Bridgewater defense that did not allow another field goal the rest of the quarter to make it 42-8 at the intermission.
  • The Phoenix jumped on the board first in the second half, but a quick response from Alsberry and Corcoran kept the momentum alive. After a Green layup the two sides started trading baskets before they exchanged scoring runs. Jay Garcia got the Eagles across the 60-point mark to end the Wilson run but a late Phoenix bucket made it 60-25 heading to the final frame.
  • WC opened the fourth with four quick points before Alsberry scored four quick ones of her own. Alsberry added four more and pushed BC out to a 70-38 lead midway through the final frame. Two late makes by Nolan helped seal the deal for BC as they held on for a 80-45 victory.

Match Notes
  • Alsberry led all scorers with 20 points and put her name in the program record book as she became just the sixth player all-time to reach the 100 career blocks plateau.
  • The Eagles picked up their second 80-point game of the season and their third win by 30 or more points this season.
  • Bridgewater held Wilson to just 2-for-25 from the floor in the opening half on the way to a 26.7% mark for the entire game.
  • Alsberry, Garcia and Jaiden Polston led the way for the BC rebounding effort that held a 43-27 advantage on the glass.
