Massive Second Half Pushes Men's Basketball past William Peace

BRIDGEWATER, Va. - The Bridgewater College men's basketball team cruised past William Peace 81-49 thanks to a massive second half.

The Basics

Final Score: Bridgewater 81, William Peace 49
Records: Bridgewater 4-1, William Peace 2-3

How it Happened
  • William Peace opened the game on a 9-2 run before back-to-back scores by Alec Topper got the ball rolling. WPU responded with a three pointer before layups from Aaron Oates and Landon Hawes got it back to a one-score game. The two sides traded scores and then consecutive scores from the Pacers put them in front 18-12 with 11:27 to go in the half.
  • BC closed the gap back down to a single possession multiple times before a Jordan Cooper old-fashioned three-point play got the Eagles to within one. The next trip down the floor Oates went to work down low and scored to give BC a 21-20 lead. The Oates score sparked an 11-6 run to put the Eagles in front 32-26. A pair of WPU free throws and a three pointer made it a one-point game before Steve Burgess nailed a free throw at the end of the half to make it 33-31 at the break.
  • The two teams traded scores to open the second half before a free throw from Topper made it 42-37 for the Eagles. William Peace closed back in before Cooper made the Eagles first three of the game for BC to make it a six-point lead for the home side. After a made triple from the Pacers closed the game back to just three points, Alec Topper scored, and the Eagles did not look back as he sparked a 17-0 scoring run to blow the game wide open. A layup from RK Law finished off the scoring spree where BC missed just one shot over four minutes to take a 64-44 lead.
  • WPU was able to get on the board thanks to a second chance effort but an alley-oop from Cooper to Khalil Ward hushed the Pacers momentum. The slam started a 17-3 scoring spree over the final six and a half minutes where William Peace was held without a make from the floor. The Pacer's were 0-for-8 from the field during the span while BC was fueled by a pair of steals along with six points from Will Dunlap to make it 81-49 at the final whistle.
