BRIDGEWATER, Va. – The Bridgewater College volleyball team fell out of the ODAC Tournament in the quarterfinals as it lost to No. 6 seed Averett 3-1 on Tuesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- In front of a rowdy Nininger Hall crowd the first set began with the two teams trading points until Averett put together a 7-1 run to go up 11-7. The Eagles brought the score back within one, 11-10, with Faith DePew and Reagan Stoop going on the attack. Eventually, BC issued another long run to go up five, 20-15. Bridgewater closed the set out with DePew powering in a kill to take the 1-0 match lead.
- The second set saw the Eagles double their lead 8-4 after two consecutive attacks from setter Ashley Rutherford. Stoop pushed Bridgewater to 15-points with a successful attack giving the team a six-point advantage, 15-9. Late in the match, the Eagles led 24-22 but the Cougars bounced back and took their first lead of the match 25-24. Averett evened up the match at one apiece, 27-25, as Emma Nash put together a successful swing.
- The Cougars led 6-4 through the first 10-points of the match by putting together a string of attacks. Gabby Atwell fired in an attack to put BC within four, 10-6, but Averett answered with a flurry of attack to go on a 6-0 run. Rachael Meyers, Atwell, and Stoop put together attacks late, but it was not enough as Averett took the set 25-15.
- The final set saw the Cougars hold a slight advantage of one, 8-7, with Meyers swinging down an attack. Averett answered back with a successful run of 5-1 as a flurry of attacks came from the Cougar six. Bridgewater stayed within reach after the midway point as Kylie Robinson fired in a kill to cut the Averett lead 17-16. The Eagles tied the set up at 22 all with Stoop serving up an ace but the Cougars capitalized on BC attack errors to take the set 25-22 and win the match 3-1.
MATCH STATS
- Stoop fired in 24 kills and picked up 16 digs to lead in both categories. DePew had 10 kills while Meyers ended the night with eight.
- Rutherford registered 42 assists on the night while also having five kills and nine digs.
- Sophia Stites recorded double digit digs with 10.
- Meyers and Stoop tied with three blocks apiece to lead in the category.
- This is fifth time in 10 years Bridgewater has put together a 20-plus win season under head coach Erin Harris.
