Eagles Defeat Hollins on Senior Day

BRIDGEWATER, Va. -- The Bridgewater College women's basketball team picked up an 82-42 over Hollins on Senior Day.

THE BASICS
Final Score: Bridgewater 82, Hollins 42
Records: Bridgewater 17-5 (12-4 ODAC), Hollins 4-17 (1-15 ODAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Eagles opened the contest with back-to-back buckets from Abby Freeman and Riley Corcoran before Hollins burned a timeout to try and stop the run. The visitors came out of the stoppage with two baskets to tie the game, but layups from India Dailey and Jasmyn Pierce pushed the Eagles out in front. Bridgewater pushed out to a 15-0 run led by two threes from Corcoran to make it 19-4 in favor of the home squad. Hollins stopped the run and the two teams traded baskets to end the frame for a 23-8 BC advantage after 10 minutes of play.
  • Bridgewater opened the second quarter on a 10-0 run led by four points from Abby Branner. Hollins got on the board with a pair of free throws but did not get a field goal for the opening 5:38 of the quarter until a Cabria Mutz second-chance effort ended the drought and made it 39-15. The Eagles pushed their lead out by four more points thanks to an 8-4 stretch over the final four minutes fueled by four points from Chassidy King. BC led 47-19 at the break.
  • Freeman got the Eagles on the board first in the opening minute of the third quarter and combined with Jaden Alsberry for a 7-0 run in the first 90 seconds of the frame. Mutz stopped the charge once more for Hollins, but Alsberry knocked down a jumper off a pass from Dailey to stop a chance of a Hollins run. The visiting side went scoreless from the floor again for over three minutes as the Bridgewater defense went to work. HU broke the drought but yet again failed to make another field goal attempt from the floor until the closing seconds of the period. A triple from Branner in the waning seconds helped BC extend the lead to 69-31 heading into the final quarter.
  • Hollins opened the fourth quarter with a Mutz make but the Eagles pushed out their advantage thanks to a quick 7-0 burst from Alsberry and Erika Nettles. The final eight minutes saw both teams trade baskets and turnovers down the stretch helping the Eagles take a 82-42 victory.
