HOW IT HAPPENED
- Liam Caswell got the game going with a layup just over a minute into the contest to give the Eagles a 2-0 lead early on. The Generals captured the lead and mounted a 14-4 run over the game's next six and a half minutes to go ahead 14-6 with a tick under 12 minutes to go in the opening half. Will Dunlap hit a pair of free throws combined with an Andy Pack three-pointer got BC back in the game before Caswell drilled a triple to make it a five-point game at 19-14 with 9:11 on the clock.Â
- The Eagles kept chipping away until the game was knotted at 19-19 after two Pack free throws. Unfortunately for the home side, Washington and Lee went back to work after the fact and held the Eagles to just five points over the remaining seven minutes, including just 1-of-7 from the floor, as the Generals held a 34-24 lead at halftime.
- Bridgewater once again started the half with the first score as Alec Topper ran in a floater followed by a three of his own, as well, to help the Eagles cut into the deficit. Each side managed to trade scores over the next several minutes as W&L eventually worked out to a 12 point lead at 50-38. BC went on a quick 12-5 run to make it a five-point game after a three-pointer from Mikey Ayala at the 8:57 mark capped the stretch with the score set at 55-50.Â
- Over the next several possessions, Bridgewater kept chipping away at the lead until a pair of Caswell free throws made it a four-point game with just under four minutes to go in regulation. Shod Smith was true with his next shot before Caswell nailed a three with two minutes left to tie the game at 64-64.Â
- Washington and Lee scored twice to gain back a five-point lead at 69-64. Pack drew a foul and hit both of his shots from the charity stripe before the Generals took an early shot on their next possession leading to a fast break basket for Smith to make it a one-point game at 69-68 with 40 seconds on the clock. Aaron Oates blocked the next shot attempt from the visitors, but an offensive rebound led to a three-pointer from Sam Wise to give the Generals a four point advantage, which led to a 74-68 final.
