Women's Lacrosse Wins Big on Senior Day

BRIDGEWATER, Va. -- The Bridgewater College women's lacrosse celebrated its 2023 senior class prior to a 19-7 victory against Ferrum at the Jopson Athletic Complex on Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Annika Benson scored the first goal of the game off an assist from Allison Burris who made her first start of the year on her senior day. Benson scored just 40 seconds later to make it 2-0 for the Eagles. Kaity Petersheim scored at the 10:45 mark to put BC up 3-0 early. Ferrum got on the board but Ashley Venit got a pass from Lauren Roberts to go back up by three goals. The panthers got one back before Madeline Magill scored on an assist from Faith Bartos to give the Eagles a 5-2 lead after the first 15 minutes. 
  • Jenna Entsminger and Roberts each scored twice to give BC a 9-2 lead before FC scored once, followed by a goal from Aunnie Hacker and Roberts to take an 11-3 lead. The Panthers scored off the stick of Willow Cooper but Kaitlyn Clark tallied a nifty goal followed by Benson getting a pass from Caris Cianelli as Bridgewater led 13-4 at the half.
  • The third quarter was all Bridgewater as Petersheim, Roberts, Venit and Miranda Coleman scored as BC led 18-4 after three quarters. Magill scored to start the fourth quarter and Ferrum responded with three straight goals to end the game, but the Eagles were on top 19-7.
GAME STATS
  • Roberts finished the game with a team-high seven points on five goals and two assists to pair with five draws, two caused turnovers and two ground balls.
  • Benson had a hat trick, while Petersheim had four points and Magill had four of her own.
  • Entsminger also had three points while Venit had two.
  • Hacker, Clark and Coleman had a point in the win.
  • Magill had four draw controls, while Cianelli had four.
  • Faith Bartos, Rachael Robinson, Julia Mohler, Madelaine Godat and Aubrey Beale had a caused turnover.
  • Bridgewater outshot the visitors 40-11 and had a 23-16 edge in ground balls.
