Seventh Annual Golden Eagles Honor the Year's Athletic Achievement

BRIDGEWATER, Va. - The seventh annual Golden Eagles Awards where held on Monday April 17 highlighting the athletic achievements over the last academic year. 

The event is hosted by the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and highlights the year's achievements on and off the field of play. 

Director of Athletics Curt Kendall and Bridgewater College President Dr. David Bushman opened the evening with a few remarks and thank you's to the entire athletics staff, top to bottom.

Hosts Vincent Leo and Meghan Bailey followed and introduced the first awards that were presented by Lauren Kokoski. Riley Corcoran and Aaron Nice took home Rookie of the Year honors in the first accolade of the night. 

Memorable moment awards were handed out to Emily Smeds who qualified for the NCAA Cross Country Championships, Adalia Coleman and Mike Smith who earned All-America status at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships and the baseball team for its upset win over No. 18 Christopher Newport earlier this spring.

Hanna Randolph and Aaron Moore grabbed Fall MVP honors while Coleman and Smith swept the awards for the winter season. Women's lacrosse standout Lauren Roberts earned spring MVP honors along side men's lacrosse attackman Chris Martel.

Three special awards followed the MVP accolades. The Geisert Scholar-Athlete Award is given to the senior student-athletes for their performance on the field and in the classroom. Savannah Scott and Jeffrey Snider each took home those honors and Allison Burris was awarded the Lehman Sportsmanship award for her continued support of her team and of the community. Softball's Molly Ecroyd was given the Bill Phipps Perseverance Award following her shortened first year with the team.

Accolades were also given out for outstanding career achievement. Randolph took home her second award of the night and men's basketball's Andy Pack was also honored following the completion of his two-sport career.

As tradition, each team selected a "Golden Wing" award recipient who exemplifies the ideals of team culture and work ethic. Those student-athletes include:

Finally, Chi Alpha Sigma Inductees were recognized. Chi Alpha Sigma is the first, and only, national scholar-athlete society to honor those four-year collegiate student-athletes who have excelled in both the classroom and in athletic competition. Chi Alpha Sigma recognizes college student-athletes who participate in a sport at the varsity intercollegiate level, achieve junior academic standing or higher after their fifth full-time semester, and earn a 3.4 or higher cumulative grade point average. Bridgewater inductees include:
