DANVILLE, Va. --
Connor McLean set a new program record with eight assists as the Bridgewater College men's lacrosse team got back on the winning track with a 25-7 win against Averett in ODAC action on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Averett got on the board first as Jay Etheridge scored at the 13:24 mark of the game. Bridgewater tied the game off the stick of Luke Wendler with an assist from McLean with 11:54 on the clock. The Eagles took the lead with 10:39 left in the first as Chris Martel and McLean connected before Trevor McClelland scored his first of the game to put BC up 3-1. The Cougars got one back but Bridgewater responded with five-straight goals to end the quarter including three more from Martel and one each from Riley Stewart and Wendler. The Eagles led 8-2 after 15 minutes.Â
- The second quarter was nearly all Bridgewater as the visitors scored 11 straight in the frame. Hayden Gourley less than 40 seconds into the period before McClelland, Martel and Wendler all scored inside the next six minutes. Grant Nyland got in on the scoring to get the score to 13-2 as Martel scored twice more to make it 15-2. Gabriel Alexander won a faceoff and ran the length of the field to score a man-up goal before Martel scored his eighth of the game with 3:28 in the half. Jacob Mead tallied his second of the season with 3:13 on the clock and McClelland got a pass from Drew Huber to make it 19-3 at the half.Â
- Wendler and Connor Taff traded goals to start the third quarter before Josh Goodwin scored off a pass from McLean, 21-4. Averett scored again with 6:05 left in the period and Gysbertus Metten came out with a goal with less than two minutes left in the third.
- Averett started the fourth quarter with a goal by Duffey before Logan Railey scored his first of the season followed by back-to-back scores from Owen Cogan to get to the final score of 25-7.
GAME STATS
- McLean breaks his own team record with eight assists in the victory. Previously, McLean has tallied seven helpers in a game on two occasions. With the eight-point game, McLean is just the second player in program history to reach 200 career points.Â
- Martel now sits just one goal behind the career goal record holder - Blake Mann - as he finished the afternoon with eight goals. Martel sits at 160 for his career as Mann's program record for the Eagles is 161 scores.Â
- In addition, Wendler had a four-goal game, while McClelland finished with a hat trick as well.
- Gourley managed a three-point afternoon with a goal and two assists, while Cogan had two goals.
- Alexander, Colby Smith, Railey, Nyland, Mead, Huber, Stewart, Metten and Goodwin all had points in the win.
- Also, Alexander went 19-for-22 in faceoffs with a game-high 17 ground balls. Samuel Sharps also won 8-of-11 attempts and grabbed six ground balls.Â
- Michael Long picked up five ground balls to go with three caused turnovers, while McClelland, Smith and Wendler all had four GBs.Â
- Ryan Addison matched Long's three caused turnovers, while Wendler had two. Hunter Russell also registered a CT, one of 17 for the Eagles in the win.
- The Eagles have now scored exactly 25 goals in all three meeting with Averett all-time.
- Bridgewater posted 58 shots compared to just 20 from AU, while BC picked up 65 ground balls and the Cougars grabbed just 38.
- Tyler Carney stared in the cage for BC and made one save in 30 minutes. Ian Cook played the next 20 minutes and stopped three shots, while Zach Guthrie-Pimpinella finished the contest and made one save.
