RALEIGH, N.C. – The Bridgewater College field hockey team kicked off the 2023 season with a dominating 5-0 win on the road at Meredith on Friday night.
THE BASICS
Final Score: Bridgewater 5, Meredith 0
Records: Bridgewater 1-0, Meredith 0-1
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Eagles dominated the game nearly from opening whistle to the final horn. BC opened the scoring in the eighth minute of the game off the stick of Kylie Amberger to put the Crimson & Gold in front, 1-0. Emily Tyler netted another one just before the end of the quarter to give the Eagles a 2-0 edge after 15 minutes. BC peppered the Meredith cage with nine shots – all on target – and forcing seven early saves from the home side.
- Amberger added to her night's offensive production as the second-year played registered her second goal of the game off a pass from Amora Marchand, 3-0. Less than two minutes later, Amberger completed a hat trick as she gave the Eagles a 4-0 lead going into halftime.
- Despite firing off 13 shots in the third quarter, Bridgewater was held scoreless in the frame, but a score from Tyler off a pass from Lexi Francis just 45 seconds into the fourth quarter gave the Eagles all the insurance they needed on the way to a 5-0 victory to start off the 2023 campaign.
