GETTYSBURG, Pa. -- The Bridgewater College field hockey team dropped a 3-1 contest at Gettysburg on Wednesday afternoon.
THE BASICS
Final Score: Gettysburg 3, Bridgewater 1
Records Bridgewater 2-4; Gettysburg 3-2
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Eagles earned a penalty corner just 30 seconds into the contest, but couldn't get a shot on target out of the attempt. The Bullets got a chance less than a minute later as a shot from Gaby Markunas was kicked away by the BC goalie Madalyn Miller. The pressure from the Gettysburg forwards consisted until Olivia Regan took a shot from the left wing to beat the goalie off an assist from Morgan Cherry, 1-0, at the 11:49 mark of the first quarter. Bridgewater got another penalty corner but failed to get off a shot as the period came to an end and the home side held on to a 1-0 lead.
- The Bullets came right out in the second quarter with a goal just shy of two minutes into the period as Jillian Somers scored off a penalty corner after getting fed a pass by Bella Bonazinga, 2-0. The two-goal advantage was short lived as an Eagles' penalty corner resulted in a shot by Carynn Klingler that was saved, but the rebound went right to the stick of Daphne Daymude who drilled in a shot for her second goal in as many games to cut the lead to 2-1 with under 11 minutes to go in the half. The next opportunity from the Bullets resulted in another score as Olivia Palermo got a pass from Markunas and a scramble in front of the cage saw the ball find its way into the net for a 3-1 lead. The last four minutes and change ticked away as the home team held on for a 3-1 lead at the half.
- The third quarter saw little action as the Eagles had the only shot of the 15-minute frame with Klingler's attempt getting blocked off a penalty corner. Neither side saw any other scoring chances and the 3-1 scoreline held into the final 15 minutes.Â
- BC got the only shot attempt in the final period as Klingler rocketed one wide and the Bullets held on for a 3-1 win.
