Women's Soccer Draws with Shenandoah

BRIDGEWATER, Va. – The Bridgewater Eagles and Shenandoah Hornets battled to a 1-1 draw Saturday afternoon in ODAC women's soccer action.

How It Happened
  • Bridgewater's Anna Zurlo put a shot on goal in the opening minute of play, but the shot was saved by SU keeper Kasie Kilmer recorded the save.
  • The Hornets countered with a corner kick and a shot in the next minute but could not convert.
  • In the seventh minute, Shenandoah was called for a foul. Skyler Daum played the free kick toward the back post and Zoe Webster headed the ball inside the post and past the keeper for a 1-0 Eagles lead.
  • Shenandoah evened the score early in the second half. The Hornets earned a corner and the Eagles cleared the ball out of the box. Shenandoah regained possession and Karlie Hepner was open on the wing from 20 yards out. Hepner hit the shot high and to the far post, just out of the reach of Eagles' keeper Rylee Asiello to tie the score.
  • Shenandoah's McKenna Newcome put a shot on goal in the 61st minute that was saved by Asiello. A minute later the Eagles had a chance, but Hannah England's shot was cleared off the line by a Hornets' defende. Newcome had another chance in the 68th minute, but once gain Asiello was on point for the save.
  • Bridgewater's final chance to take the lead came in the 86th minute when Webster's header from in close bounced off the crossbar.
Match Notes
  • The goal by Webster, a BC junior, was the first of her career.
  • Shenandoah had a 19-12 edge in total shots and a slim 7-5 edge in shots on goal.
  • Asiello finished the contest with six saves while SU's Kilmer added three saves.

Bridgewater travels to Lexington on Wednesday evening to face Washington and Lee in ODAC action.
