Field Hockey Falls Short in Double Overtime to Randolph-Macon

BRIDGEWATER, Va. - Bridgewater College field hockey fell short in double overtime to Randolph-Macon, 1-0 at Jopson Athletic Complex Wednesday night.

The Basics
Score: Randolph-Macon (RMC) 1, Bridgewater (BCE) 0
Records: BCE (8-4-1 Overall, 2-2 Conf.0, RMC (8-5 Overall, 2-2 Conf.)

How It Happened
  • Solid defense on both sides played out to start out the game. BCE got a scoring chance with a penalty corner two minutes into play, but RMC snuffed it out. Two more shots were laced on goal, but the score remained at zero.
  • Three more penalty corners went to the Eagles, but they would not convert with the strong defensive line from the Wildcats. Two more close shots fired near the end of the second quarter, but still no point on the scoreboard.
  • In the second half, Bridgewater took up the field on a strong attacking sequence to draw a penalty stroke, but still the strong goalkeeping knocked the ball out of the zone. The Eagles also in return kept the defense in tight and kept a lot of scoring chances out including the penalty corner to give the Wildcats a chance to go up a point; however, the Eagles deflected it out of the zone.
  • Then, as overtime played through and the next goal would signal the win, the Eagles tried to keep out anything they could, until the second overtime when Natalie Moul from the top of the circle nailed the game-winning point.
Game Notes
  • Bridgewater outpowered Randolph-Macon in the shots category with 22 shots (12 on goal) to RMC's 10 (six on goal).
  • Junior Madalyn Miller collected four saves in the second half.
