Women's Soccer Defeats Ferrum on Senior Day

BRIDGEWATER, Va. – The Bridgewater College women's soccer team took down Ferrum 3-0 on senior day.

The Basics
Score: Bridgewater 3, Ferrum 0
Records: Bridgewater 5-6-5 (2-3-3 ODAC), Ferrum 13-3-1 (4-3-1 ODAC)

How It Happened
  • Bridgewater had chances early and often as Lyric Birkley fired a shot on goal inside of the game's first minute that was saved by Ashlie Wuss. The Eagles continued to fire away until a long throw finally broke the seal as Birkley found the head of Katherine King for the score to make it 1-0 just shy of the ninth minute.
  • BC kept the offense rolling and Ferrum tired to find some time to breathe on a clear, but Bridgewater countered. Brikley made a run and fired a shot into the back of the net to make it 2-0 12 minutes in.
  • The Eagles continued to roll with multiple shots, but some nifty saves by Wuss kept it a two-goal game. Cassandra Villafan was able to scoop up a pass from Skyler Daum and fired her shot home in the 25th minute to make it 3-0. Ferrum finally got their first shot, but missed wide as BC took the 3-0 lead to the half.
  • The crimson and gold continued to roll offensively, but the Panthers were able to tame it and had some chances of their own. Neither side was able to get to the back of the net as the 3-0 scoreline held.
Match Notes
  • Birkley added to her career point total as she added a goal and an assist.
  • Asiello made one stop on the only shot she faced. Wuss had a busy day as she tallied 14 stops on 17 shots on target.
  • BC dominated the pace of play firing 34 shots and 17 on target compared to just five and one on goal for the Panthers.
