Women's Volleyball Falls to Virginia Wesleyan at Home

BRIDGEWATER, Va. - Bridgewater College women's volleyball fell to Virginia Wesleyan in four sets, 3-1, at Nininger Hall Friday night.

The Basics

Score: Virginia Wesleyan (VWU) 3, Bridgewater (BCE) 1

Records: BCE (13-3 Overall, 5-1 Conf.), VWU (14-3 Overall, 4-1 Conf.)

How It Happened

  • The Eagles got the ball rolling in the first set pounding 15 kills. VWU kept it close, but BCE stayed aggressive and closed out the set, 25-18.

  • Then, a back-and-forth second set would ensue; however, this time the Marlins got the offense going with 16 kills taking the set, 25-21.

  • In the third set, both teams held almost even throughout the middle of the set and by the end, the Marlins would lead in the kills category and push the offense from the outside with 13 kills to the Eagles' 10. The Eagles dropped the third, 25-16

  • As the fourth set unraveled, both teams remained evenly matched going kill to kill, and while the Eagles capitalized on the six errors made in the set by the Marlins, VWU found momentum and punched its way to a 25-20 fourth set.

Match Notes

  • Both teams were nearly square offensively, with BCE putting up 50 kills and VWU posting 49.

  • Junior Faith DePew posted her second double-double of the season with 12 kills and 13 digs.

  • Sophomore Reagan Stoop collected 17 kills on the night making that her second most in ODAC play this season (Season high 19 against ODAC opponent, Hollins, Sept. 14).
