Score: (RV) Guilford 79, Bridgewater 59
Records: Bridgewater 6-5 (1-2 ODAC), (RV) Guilford 7-2 (2-1 ODAC)
How It Happened
- Bridgewater struck first as Maleek Richardson drained a three-pointer, but six straight points from Guilford put the Quakers in front. Richardson struck again to cut the lead to one but the rare four-point play followed as Luke Proctor nailed a three-pointer and the foul shot following the contact on the shot to make it 10-5. The teams traded makes and then a three-pointer from Aaron Oates cut the lead to just two points at 12-10.
- Guilford responded to the pressure with a 7-0 run that was interrupted by a Steve Burgess layup. The two sides traded buckets until five-straight from GC stretched the advantage. A BC score interrupted the run but Guilford followed to make it a 10-2 run in total to make it 31-16 with 3:35 to play in the half. Richardson got BC back on the board, but Guilford scored on back-to-back trips to push the edge to 18. Bridgewater closed back in thanks to a 6-3 edge over the final 2:23 of the frame, including a layup just before the horn by Will Dunlap to make it 39-24 at the break.
- Neither team scored in the game's opening 90 seconds before Gabe Proctor opened the scoring for Guilford. Richardson replied for the Eagles, but the Quakers responded with a 10-0 run to take a 51-26 advantage. Oates and Gabe Proctor traded three-pointers following the scoring spree with the BC senior knocking down three in just over two minutes of game time. Dunlap added a pair of makes at the free throw line to cap off an 11-3 Eagles run to close back down to 54-37 with 12:45 to play.
- The Quakers ended the run with a deep make, but consecutive scores by the Eagles chopped the lead down even more. Guilford stretch the advantage back out to 20, but a Richardson three-pointer gave BC life. The home side replied with a 10-1 run that saw BC go without a field goal for over four minutes to stretch the lead to 26 points. Dunlap drained a jumper from behind the arc, but GC replied with one of their own. Bridgewater outscored Guilford 7-4 over the final three minutes, but the damage was done.
