HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Jordan Cooper set the tone right off the start with a dunk to open the game. Aaron Oates followed a three-pointer before EMU got on the board with a two-point jumper. Cooper drained a long-range jumper, but the Royals responded with a pair of makes of their own to knot the game at 8-8. Cooper through down another dunk to take the lead back, but a Julian Hagerman three-pointer put the Royals in front 11-10. EMU pulled in front by three but five-straight points from RK Law put BC back in front 15-13.
  • The teams traded makes before back-to-back three-pointers from Law and Will Dunlap put the Eagles in front by six. Bridgewater stretched the lead to 30-19 after an Oates layup before another trade of buckets kept BC in front. EMU pulled back to within five, but a layup from Cooper and a breakaway jam from Khalil Ward pushed the lead back out to nine. Landon Hawes knocked down a step-back jumper at the buzzer to make it 42-34 at the break.
  • EMU opened the half on a 6-0 run before Ward drained a three-pointer to get the Eagles on the board. The Royals continued to close in and tied the game at 45-45 with 14:43 left on the clock. BC responded with a 7- 0 run capped off by an Oates layup to put them up 52-45. EMU replied with a 7-0 run of their own to tie the game at 52-52 with 8:18 to go.
  • Ward put the Eagles back in front with a make at the line. Aviwe Mahlong made one of two at the line to even the game at 53-53. The Royals took the lead off a layup with just north of seven minutes to play, but an Alec Topper dunk and the foul put BC back in front. EMU knotted the game but quickly Cooper drove to the hole to wrestle the lead back. Hagerman drilled a three-pointer to take the lead and then Oates threw down a monster slam and got the foul to go back in front 61-59. EMU tied the game again and on cue Topper dished to Cooper and he got in on the action with a massive two-handed slam. Steve Burgess knocked down a jumper, but an EMU long-range make got the Royals to within a point. EMU was within one with 4:39 to go and it was all BC for the final four minutes. The Eagles went on a 15-1 run over the final four minutes capped by off a pair of makes at the line by Hawes.
