Baseball Falls to Hanover

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Bridgewater College concluded its spring break trip falling to Hanover 4-0 on Friday morning.

THE BASICS

Final Score: Hanover 4, Bridgewater 0
Records: Bridgewater 9-4, Hanover 5-2

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Panthers struck early scoring the first run in the top of the first inning. Eric Roudebush brought in the first run of the game hitting a deep fly ball to left field bring the runner home on the sacrifice fly. Starter, Reid Long escaped the inning getting the final out on a ground out to Isaac Sumpter.
  • The Eagles could not find their rhythm being held hitless through the first two frames. Hanover was down two outs in the top of the third but a triple to right center kept the inning alive. The following batter scored the runner hitting a single up the middle. A double to left field gave the Panthers a 3-0 nothing advantage.
  • Hanover scored its final run in the top of the fifth when Jake Danneman started the inning singling down the left field line then stole second base on the following play. A costly error from the BC defense brought the runner home to make it a 4-0 ball game.
  • Tristan Gordon got Bridgewater its first hit in the bottom of the eighth singling down the left field line. The Eagles tried to start a comeback in bottom of the ninth with Nick Stavros doubling to left field then Lucas Bauer hit a single up the middle. The Panthers were able to escape the threat of runners winning the game 4-0.
GAME STATS
  • Bauer, Gordon and Stavros each had a hit in today's performance.
  • Alex Christie and Danneman led all hitters going each having a two-hit day at the plate.
  • Long was issued the loss in the game going 5.0 innings giving up four runs (three earned) on seven hits while having two strike outs. Nick Harris pitched 4.0 innings giving up two hits.
  • John Girard went a full 9.0 innings for Hanover giving up three hits and striking out 11.

Bridgewater returns to the Bridgewater Baseball Field next Tuesday as the team hosts Mary Baldwin at 3 p.m.
