Men's Lax Wins at Juniata

HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- The Bridgewater College men's lacrosse team got back on the winning track with a 15-6 win at Juniata at Gibbel Stadium on Friday evening.

THE BASICS

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The home team got on the board first as Zachary Forrest scored at the 13:21 mark of the opening quarter, but Riley Stewart tied the game at 1-1 with a goal just 30 seconds later assisted by Drew Huber. Trevor McClelland scored off a pass from Huber at the 8:30 mark to give the Eagles a 2-1 advantage. Juniata responded with a goal from Kolton Black as the game went to the second quarter tied at 2-2.
  • Huber picked up his third point of the evening with a goal just over a minute into the second period to give BC a lead that it held for the remainder of the game. Ryan Linn scored his first collegiate goal off an assist from Aidan Bruehl with 10:19 on the clock to make it 4-2. A man-up goal by Vincent Bechler got Juniata within one goal, but McClelland scored his second goal with two and a half minutes left in the half as the Eagles went into halftime with a 5-3 lead. 
  • The game remained close in the third quarter as Tyler Pinto netted a goal off a pass from Huber with 12:16 left in the third quarter and Hayden Gourley scored to push the lead to four goals with six minutes to go. Black scored his second of he game a few moments later, but Bridgewater maintained a 7-4 lead going into the game's final quarter.
  • The Eagles controlled the fourth quarter as they outscored the home side 8-2 in the last 15 minutes of the game. Huber started the scoring run at the 13:20 mark with Juniata following with a goal. McClelland completed a hat trick to make it 9-5 and Juniata scored one last time at 8:43 to cut into the deficit. The game's final six goals were all from BC as Huber scored off an assist from Colin Chizmar, Colby Smith added a goal off a helper from Huber, Linn scored his second of the game, Huber scored again with this one coming during an extra-man opportunity, Luke Wendler scored his first of the season and Pinto added a late goal in the waning seconds of the contest to give BC a 15-6 victory. 
GAME STATS
  • Huber had a big day as the junior finished with eight points on four goals and four assists. 
  • McClelland racked up three goals and an assist to finish the evening with four points, while Pinto and Linn each scored twice. Smith, Stewart, Gourley and Wendler all had one goal. 
  • In addition, Pinto, Bruehl and Chizmar had assists.
  • Gabriel Alexander went an impressive 17-for-19 at the faceoff X with 16 ground balls, while Killian Krapfl and Sean Kelly were each a perfect 2-for-2.
  • Jacob Mead, Chizmar, Ryan Addison, Grant Heidebrecht and McClelland all had two caused turnovers, while Gabe Wallman, Jackson Wicker, Pinto and Bruehl all had one CT. 
  • Wallman had five ground balls, while Mead and Stewart each had three apiece and Chizmar, Addison, Heidebrecht, Wicker and Smith all had two each. 
  • Wallman played all 60 minutes and made 12 saves, while the Juniata goalie Justin Toney stopped 19 shots out of the 34 that he faced. 
  • Bridgewater out shot the home side 62-28, while holding a 40-20 edge in ground balls.

Bridgewater returns home for its third game in five days on Sunday, March 3, as it hosts Southwestern (Texas) at the Jopson Turf Field at 12 pm.
