BRIDGEWATER, Va. -- The Bridgewater College men's lacrosse team was stifled by St. Mary's (Md.), 16-5, at Bridgewater Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Eagles jumped out to a 1-0 lead as Drew Huber scored the game's first goal at the 9:38 mark of the first quarter. The Seahawks eventually responded at the 8:25 mark as Declan Horton found the back of the cage. The goal started a 10-goal scoring run for the visitors as BC trailed 6-1 after the opening quarter.Â
- Riley Stewart ended a 20 minute scoring drought with an unassisted score to make the game 10-2 with 4:11 left in the first half. St. Mary's added two more before Ryan Linn bounced one in to send the game to halftime with a 12-3 scoreline.
- A low-scoring third quarter saw just one goal as Joshua Martel caught a feed from Keegan Preis to give the visitors a 13-3 lead going into the final period. After a goal by Quinnten Hatfield for the Seahawks, Huber scored his second of the game after getting a pass from Aidan Bruehl to get one goal closer at 14-4. Martel scored back-to-back goals before Trevor McClelland scored in the game's final minute as the Seahawks walked away with a 16-5 victory.
GAME STATS
- Huber led the Eagles with two goals with Stewart, McClelland and Linn scoring the rest.Â
- Bruehl had the lone assist for BC.
- Gabriel Alexander was astounding at the faceoff X as he went 21-for-23 with 20 ground balls. Killian Krapfl was also a perfect 2-for-2 as well.
- CJ McKnight had five ground balls to go with three caused turnovers, while McClelland picked up three ground balls and Huber, Luke Wendler and Brennan McKeown all had a pair of GBs.Â
- Gabe Wallman made 16 saves in all 60 minutes between the pipes, while Tyler Grove stopped 11 shots in the victory.
- St. Mary's out shot Bridgewater 45-39 and had a slight 42-40 edge in ground balls.Â
UP NEXT
Bridgewater is idle for nearly two weeks before returning to action Wednesday, March 27, as it hosts Shenandoah in ODAC action at Bridgewater Stadium beginning at 7 pm. The game will serve as the team's Bleed Crimson game.
