BRIDGEWATER, Va. – The Bridgewater College men's tennis team fell to No. 19 Washington & Lee 9-0 on Wednesday.
WLU opened action by sweeping the doubles action. The Eagles got good fights across the board highlighted by a 3-8 scoreline at the No. 2 spot by the duo of
Matthew Leonard and
Noah Hughes.
Bryce Cline and
Corey Beshoar started hot at the No. 3 spot with a service hold to open the match before falling 2-8.
The Generals kept the momentum rolling as they did not drop a game at the bottom two singles slots to lock up the match. Beshoar and Leonard put up the best fights for BC in singles play. At the no. 3 spot, Beshoar fell 1-6, 2-6 after grinding two games out in set number two and falling just short in multiple deuce games. Leonard came out hot out of the gate at the top spot by taking a 2-1 lead on Evan Erb, the No. 9 ranked player in Division III. Leonard dropped the opening set 2-6 and fell behind 0-4 before scrapping away a pair of games before dropping the second stanza 2-6 as well.
The Eagles are back at it on Friday as they travel to Hampden-Sydney to take on the Tigers.
