HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. -- The Bridgewater College men's lacrosse team kept up with Hampden-Sydney, which is receiving votes in the national polls, but ultimately fell 15-9 at Lewis C. Everett Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The scoring got started as Patrick Haines netted a goal at the 12:40 mark off an assist from Ray O'Brien before Owen Cogan knotted things up after getting a pass from Ryan Linn with nine minutes to go in the first. Michael Leone put H-SC ahead at 2-1 with 8:00 left and the Eagles tied it up again with a strike from Drew Huber who got a pass from Hayden Gourley. The low-scoring first quarter came to an end with the game tied at 2-2.
- The Eagles maintained momentum coming ot of the stoppage for the quarter break as Colby Smith scored with an assist from Huber to give Bridgewater a 3-2 lead with 13:43 left in the half. The Tigers got that goal back a few minutes later as Davis Mack scored to tie things up, which started a three-goal stretch for the home side to take a 5-3 lead. The Eagles responded with a pair of goals of their own as Riley Stewart and Cogan each got unassisted scores to tie the game once again at 5-5. The two teams traded goals as Ford Burke and Trevor McClelland scored to keep the game tied at 6-6 with 2:03 left in the half.The Tigers scored twice in the final six seconds as Cameron Va Iunen and Luke Helfgott found the back of the cage as Hampden-Sydney led 8-6 at halftime.
- The Tigers came out of the locker room on fire as the home side scored four-straight goals to start the third quarter to increase the lead to 12-6. Bridgewater broke the scoring run with a goal from Grant Nyland at the 2:21 mark of the third and Stewart beat the horn and score with no time remaining as the game went to the final quarter as the Eagles trailed 12-8.
- Patrick Saunders opened the fourth with an early goal to increase the lead to 13-8, but the Eagles kept fighting and McClelland netted a man-up goal to make the score 13-9. The game's last two goals came from Hampden-Sydney as Alex Wagner and Burke each scored to get to the final scoreline of 15-9.
GAME STATS
- Cogan, McClelland and Stewart all finished with two goals apiece, while Smith, Nyland and Huber all had one each.
- Gourley and Linn both finished with two assists and Huber and Tyler Pinto each pitched in one.
- Gabriel Alexander won 18-of-25 faceoff attempts and scooped up 15 ground balls, while Killian Krapfl won his lone faceoff try.Â
- Gourley, Huber, Brennan McKeown, Gabe Wallman and Jackson Wicker all picked up two ground balls.
- Gourley, McKeown, Cogan, Grant Heidebrecht, Dan Flynn and Clay Lawrence all caused one turnover.
- Wallman played all 60 minutes in the cage making 10 saves in the loss.
- Hampden-Sydney out shot the Eagles 46-26 and had a slight 36-33 edge in ground balls.Â
- Bridgewater scored on the lone extra-man opportunity of the contest as each team was efficient in clears with the Eagles successful on 21-of-27 tries and the Tigers true on 21-of-25.Â
