SALEM, Va. – The Bridgewater College baseball team split a pair of games with Roanoke on Saturday evening.
THE BASICS

Game one – Roanoke 6, Bridgewater 5
Game two – Bridgewater 6, Roanoke 4
Records: Bridgewater 21-12 (9-7 ODAC), Roanoke 17-15 (11-5 ODAC)
HOW IT HAPPENED
Game One
- The Maroons jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning after Kyle Moshier hit a home run over the left field wall. Joe Christopher recovered getting the next three outs leaving a runner stranded on third.
- RC put up three runs in the bottom of the fourth starting out with Nate Prince flying out to left field to allow the runner from third to tag up from third. A walk loaded the bases for Roanoke, then Dylan Bonzon knocked a double to right center plating two more runs to make it 4-0.
- The Eagles rallied for a run in the home away half of the fifth inning when Nick Stavros started a two-out rally with a double to left center. Brandan Hartman drove in Stavros after a single to right field cutting the deficit to three, 4-1.
- Both offenses were held in check throughout the middle innings with Andrew Baugher leading the way for BC in relief with two shutout innings.
- Brandan Hartman led off the top of the eighth inning singling through the 5-6 hole. Jonathan Sexton delivered a big at-bat taking a hit by pitch to put runners on first and second. Ashton Smith, getting his fourth start of the season, tied up the game popping a ball over the wall in left field.
- The bottom of the eighth inning saw the Maroons take the lead as Hayden Giordano led off the inning with a single down the left field line. With two outs, Cayden Freels hit a double to left field to put RC back up 5-4.
- Jeffrey Snider began the top of the ninth strolling down to first base after using patience to draw a walk. Nick Stavros dropped a sacrifice bunt to advance Snider into scoring position. Hartman dropped in a single to center which plated Snider and forced the game into extras with the game knotted at 5-5.
- Roanoke, with runners on first and second, claimed the game-winning run after Tucker Schiavoni hit a single to right field giving the Maroons the 6-5 win.
GAME STATS
- Smith and Hartman each had a 3-for-5 day at the plate, each had multiple RBIs with Smith recording three after a three-run home run and Hartman with two after two RBI singles.
- Stavros dropped in a double that led to a run scored in the top of the fifth.
- Nick Dawson led the way in walks drawing two in the game.
- Christopher got the start on the bump recording 5.0 innings with four runs (all earned) on eight hits while striking out four.
- Baugher went 2.2 innings giving up one run on two hits striking out one. Nick Harris was strapped with the loss after tossing 1.1 innings allowing the run to score in the bottom of the 10th.
- Isaac Brooks picked up the win coming in the game in the top of the ninth inning. Thomas Burgess got the start on the mound for RC going 7.0 innings giving up two runs (all earned) on eight hits while striking out five.
Game Two
- Snider began the top of the first hitting a single to right field but was called out the next at-bat after trying to steal second. Stavros and Hartman each took a hit by pitch to put runners on first and second for the Eagles. Sexton got BC on the board first hitting a single through the left side. A double play from the Maroons thwarted Bridgewater's attack.
- The top of the second inning saw Smith crack a home run over the left field wall giving him his second homer of the day and put BC up 2-0.
- RC's Prince doubled down the left field line to begin the bottom of the sixth, then moved up to third on a fly out to left field. Prince came around to score after a ground out gave him enough time to reach home safely. The Maroons loaded the bases after a hit by pitch, walk and an infield single. Spencer Lloyd kept the runners stranded after getting the last out on a fly out to left field.
- The Eagles went back to their scoring ways in the top of the seventh inning with Snider finding real estate in the right field gap. Stavros stepped up to the plate dropping in a single to the same area plating Snider. Hartman and Sexton recorded back-to-back doubles to increase the lead to 5-1. Lucas Bauer hit a single up the middle allowing Sexton to reach home safely and go up 6-1.
- Roanoke put together offense in the bottom of the eighth after two walks and a single loaded the bases for Moshier who singled to left center for two runs to come across. Schiavoni cut Bridgewater's lead to two after a single from left field made it 6-4. Sexton had a huge throw down to second base getting out the runner trying to steal second, then Nick Griffin recorded a strike out to escape the inning.
- Jared Peake pitched his way to a save in the bottom of the ninth recording three outs and giving BC the win 6-4.
GAME STATS
- Five Eagles recorded multiple hits in the game. Sexton recorded two RBIs in his 2-for-4 day to lead in the category.
- Smith registered his second home run of the day in his 2-for-5 day in game two.
- Stavros came around to score twice while registering a hit, an RBI and a walk.
- Reid Long picked up his fifth win of the season after going 5.1 innings giving up one run on five hits with two strike outs.
- Peake registered his first save of the season after coming in to pitch in the bottom of the ninth.
- Jackson Murphy was saddled with the loss with 6.0 innings with 10 hits given up yielding four runs (all earned).
