Men's Lacrosse Finishes Season Against Randolph-Macon

BRIDGEWATER, Va. -- The Bridgewater College men's lacrosse team's 2024 season came to an end as it finished up the regular season with a 21-6 loss against Randolph-Macon at Bridgewater Stadium on Wednesday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Yellow Jackets jumped in front 2-0 after consecutive goals by Austin Payne and Avery Tankersley with 12:36 left in the first. Riley Stewart found an opening after taking a pass from Colby Smith to half the deficit to one goal at the 12:06 mark, 2-1. Brennan McKeown tied the contest after launching a shot from his own defensive zone to beat the shot clock and clear the ball as he scored from over 65 yards away. This was the first goal of his collegiate career. RMC retook the lead on a goal by Grant Sobel that began a 17-goal run by the visitors. RMC led 8-2 at the end of the opening 15 minutes and held a 12-2 edge at halftime.
  • The goal-scoring run continued as the Yellow Jackets blanked the Eagles in the third quarter, as well, and outscored BC 7-0 in the third frame to go into the final period up 19-2.
  • Bridgewater broke its scoreless drought with 10:47 left in regulation as Luke Wendler got a pass from Grant Nyland and found the back of the cage, 19-3, before Trevor McClelland got his first goal of the game at the 5:54 mark. Randolph-Macon added another from Walker Wikinson before Colby Smith got on the board to make it 20-5. Each team scored once in the final minute, including McClelland scoring his second goal of the quarter with 23 seconds left to play to get to the final of 21-6.
GAME STATS
  • McClelland led the Eagles with two goals, while Smith, Wendler, Stewart and McKeown all had one.
  • Smith and Nyland pitched in one assist each.
  • Gabriel Alexander went 14-for-27 on faceoffs with 11 ground balls.
  • Ryan Addison had three ground balls to go with four caused turnovers.
  • Dan Flynn also had three ground balls, while Smith, Wendler, Stewart, CJ McKnight, Grant Heidebrecht, Zach Guthrie-Pimpinella and Tyler Pinto had two GBs each.
  • McKnight caused a pair of turnovers and Hayden Gourley forced a change of possession, as well.
  • Gabe Wallman started in the cage and made two saves before Guthrie-Pimpinella stopped seven shots in 30 minutes of play. Ian Coo finished the game and made one save on three shots faced.
  • Randolph-Macon out shot Bridgewater 50-21 and had a slight 44-39 edge in ground balls.
