Eagles Advance in ODAC Tournament

BRIDGEWATER, Va. -- For a second season in a row, the Bridgewater College women's lacrosse team prevailed in the ODAC Tournament First Round as it defeated Ferrum, 19-4, at Bridgewater Stadium on Saturday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Eagles scored early and often to start off the fist quarter as Kaity Petersheim got BC on the board not even 30 seconds into the contest. Aunnie Hacker scored off a pass from Annika Benson and Brooke Hanson got herself a goal with an assist to Hacker as the Eagles went up 3-0 only two minutes into the contest. Grace Pietro scored in a woman-up situation after taking a pass from Ashley Venit and Lauren Roberts scored off a free-position attempt to give BC a 5-0 lead with 11:37 left in the opening quarter. Benson scored again at the 10:17 mark after getting a pass from Hanson as BC held a strong 6-0 lead. Willow Cooper got the Panthers on the board with 7:35 left in the opening frame, but Pietro scored again just over a minute later, 7-1. Cooper scored her second of the quarter but Roberts and Venit went back-to-back as Bridgewater led 9-2. Micaiyah Dickerson deposited a goal in the last 20 seconds of the quarter as Bridgewater led 9-3 after 15 minutes.
  • The second quarter saw less goals, but still a distinct advantage for the Eagles as Hacker and Roberts each scored in the first three minutes to go ahead 11-3. Ashtyn Bishop scored for the Panthers before Venit scored again with a helper from Miranda Coleman to give Bridgewater a 12-4 lead at halftime.
  • Bridgewater blanked Ferrum in the third quarter and put up five goals of its own as Benson scored twice in the early minutes before Pietro scored again and Paige Mayers got in on the scoring with 8:54 left in the third. Petersheim scored with 7:03 to go in the third as the Eagles led 17-4 after 45 minutes.
  • Jenna Entsminger got on the stat sheet with a goal off an assist from Caris Cianelli and Mayers registered one more goal in the game with an assist by Kena Gresham to get to the final scoreline of 19-4.
GAME STATS
  • Leadnig the night offensively was Roberts and Venit who each had five points. Roberts recorded a hat trick and two assists, while Venit reached the 100-career point plateau with two goals and three assists.
  • Pietro also netted a hat trick, while Mayers, Hacker and Petersheim joined Venit with two goals.
  • Hanson and Entsminger each had one goal in the win.
  • Mayers had two assists, while Benson, Hacker, Petersheim, Hanson, Cianelli, Gresham and Coleman all had one apiece.
  • Roberts led the team with four draw controls, while Petersheim hauled down three and Pietro had one. Olivia Lawrence also had one draw control.
  • Delaney McDermott led the way with four ground balls, while Roberts, Petersheim, Piertro and Cianelli had three GBs each. Lawrence, Lindsay Davisand Tavin Krick all had two.
  • Cianelli also led the team with three caused turnovers as Petersheim, Benson and Julia Mohler all caused a pair of turnovers.
  • Rachael Robinson made three saves in 30 minutes of play in the win, while Maisen Jenkins stopped all six shots she faced in the second half.
UP NEXT
Bridgewater moves on to the quarterfinal round of the ODAC Tournament as it heads to third-seeded Shenandoah on Tuesday, April 30 at a time still to be determined.
