Women's Tennis Defeats Lynchburg for the First Time Since 2017

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Bridgewater College women's tennis defeated Lynchburg for the first time since 2017 on Wednesday in 5-2 fashion.

Bridgewater opened up by sweeping doubles play. Emma Nesselrodt and Jolexie Whetzel jumped out to a 5-1 lead at the top spot on the way to an 8-6 victory. Emily Wylie and Ryan Roeber rolled to an 8-3 win at the No. 2 spot, while Emma Staton and Raea Crabill cruised to an 8-2 victory at the No. 3 slot to complete the sweep.

Lynchburg picked up tight wins at the No. 1 and No. 3 spots to get on the board despite the best efforts of Nesselrodt and Roeber who battled for over a hour and a half each. The bottom half of the BC ladder did its job to secure the victory after the Hornet victories. Whetzel picked up a 6-2, 7-5 win at the No. 4 spot where she won four-straight games in the second set to come back from 4-5 down. Crabill sealed the deal at the No. 6 spot as she cruised to a 6-2, 6-1 win.

BC is back in action on Friday as both teams host Virginia Wesleyan starting at 2 p.m.
