BRIDGEWATER, Va. – The Bridgewater College women's tennis fell to Virginia Wesleyan 5-3 in a rain altered affair.
Bridgewater fell behind 1-2 after doubles as
Jolexie Whetzel and
Emma Nesselrodt got the Eagles on the board. The BC top duo jumped in front before a late VWU surge sent the match to a tiebreak. The breaker was tight throughout, but a late run helped the pair take it 8-7(4)
Nesselrodt cruised to a 6-2, 6-1 win at the top spot in singles action. BC dropped matches at the No. 2 and No. 3 spot giving VWU a 4-2 advantage before the rain changed everything.
Ryan Roeber was locked in a battle as the match shifted to the Doug Will Tennis Center. The senior split the first two sets by a line of 6-3, 2-6, but the third set was all Roeber with a comfortable 6-0 bagel to extend the match.
Emma Staton and
Raea Crabill each took the opening set at the No. 5 and No. 6 spots to keep hope alive. Staton dropped the second set 3-6 and the match took a turn as the Marlins locked the match up with a 0-6 third set.
BC is back in action tomorrow as both teams host Guilford at 2 p.m.
