ASHLAND, Va. - The Virginia Spots Information Directors Academic All-State team was announced on Thursday afternoon with six Eagles claiming spots on the list.
Emma Nesselrodt (Women's Tennis),
Kelsey Quinn (Equestrian),
Mackenzie Young (Women's Track & Field),
Maren Dougherty (Women's Soccer),
Luke Wintersgill (Men's Swimming) and
Jeffrey Snider (Baseball) represented the Eagles on the annual academic award listing.
Nesselrodt concluded her collegiate tennis career with 49 career wins in the Crimson & Gold during her three years at BC. The Mount Crawford native tallied eight wins at the top singles spot for the Eagles in the 2023-24 season and picked up double-digit doubles wins for the first time in her career. A mainstay on the dean's and ODAC All-Academic lists, Nesselrodt graduated in April with a degree in Biochemistry.
Quinn concluded her NCEA riding career as one of the most decorated riders in the storied history of the equestrian program. Quinn is a two-time NCEA Ariat All-American along with claiming ODAC Flat Rider of the Year honors this spring. The senior from Maryland grabbed NCEA All-Academic honors this spring. An ODAC Rider of the Week winner, Quinn also claimed a share of the Geisert Scholar-Athlete award at this year's Golden Eagle Awards. The Geisert Scholar-Athlete award is given to the top male and female student-athlete that excels both in the field of competition and in the classroom. Quinn graduated in April with degrees in Mathematics and Computer Science.
Young also claimed a share of the Geisert Scholar-Athlete Award as her and Quinn were the first ever co-winners in the history of the award. Haling from Chesterfield, Va., Young has earned multiple All-ODAC and All-Region honors in both the track and field ranks along with cross country in her time at BC. Young most recently placed on the podium in the 1,500m run at the ODAC Championships and earned USTFCCCA All-Region honors in the 3,000m steeplechase this spring.Young graduated in April with a degree in Liberal Studies.
Daugherty has claimed multiple All-ODAC, USC All-Region and VaSID All-State nods and adds her second Academic All-State pick to the list. Despite missing part of the 2023 women's soccer season due to an injury, Dougherty still was one of the top performers in the classroom. Daugherty was a mainstay in the BC back line that set multiple program bests defensively. Dougherty graduated with a degree in Biology in April.
Wintersgill adds an Academic All-State honor to an All-ODAC and CSC Academic All-District nod earlier this year. The senior from Madison, Va. was a recipient of the Bonnie Kestner Sportsmanship Award along wth claiming the Geisert Scholar-Athlete award on the men's side this year. A holder of multiple Bridgewater Swimming record times, Wintersgill graduated in April with a degree in Mathematics.
Snider claims an Academic All-State nod to go along with being one of the most decorated Bridgewater Baseball players in the last few seasons. The Resiterstown, Md. native has claimed All-ODAC, All-State and All-Region honors in his career along with being the program's career leader in walks and stolen bases. A multi-time Academic All-State recipient, Snider graduated in April with a degree in History.
In total, 216 student-athletes from 36 schools across the commonwealth were recognized. VaSID names 44 all-state teams in 23 sports each year, as well as the Academic All-State squad and an all-sports champion in both the University and College Divisions. Membership in VaSID is open to all media relations professionals working at a university or conference in the state of Virginia.
