DANVILLE, Va. - The Bridgewater College men's soccer team overcame a one-goal deficit on the way to a 2-1 victory over Averett on Saturday.

How It Happened
- Averett wasted no time as the Cougars marched down the field and earned a corner kick just over a minute in. AU capitalized as Jaime Vazquez Sanjurjo found the back of the net on the attempt to make it 1-0 for the home team just 90 seconds in.
- The Cougars kept pressuring after the early score with multiple scoring chances including a shot saved by Charles Schweinefuss in the 35th minute. The Eagles quickly flipped the field after the save and Riley Queen fired a shot to the post that was saved by Tyler Yates for the Cougars just before the half.
- AU had a chance in the opening minutes of the second half, but the Eagles flipped the field. Queen had a shot saved by Yates in the 53rd minute and less than 60 seconds later Queen found the back of the net to tie the game 1-1 with over 30 minutes to play.
- The goal flipped the momentum after the goal as Tony Chavez had his shot saved by Yates. Less than two minutes later, Ali Malik found Erick Lobo who scored to put BC in front. BC kept the pedal down and Widrick fired a pair of shots that were just off target. Widrick and Queen kept the pressure on with shots on target over the final 10 minutes, but Yates kept it a one goal game.
Match Notes
- Queen and Lobo fueled the comeback effort with their tallies. Queen's four shots on goal and five total shots tied the team highs for the season.
- Vazquez Sanjurjo's tally was one of just two shots one net for the Cougars.
- Schweinefuss made one save oon the two shots he faced. Yates tallied six stops on eight shots.
- The Eagles held a 13-4 advantage in shots including a 12-1 advantage in the second half.
