GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Bridgewater College men's soccer team took down Guilford 3-2 Wednesday night.

How it Happened

Bridgewater held possession for most of the opening minutes. Aside from a shot attempt from Guilford's Chris Hercules, Trey Widrick, Riley Queen, Anthony Medrano, and Cole Dunbar each took shot attempts in the first 15 minutes. Of those shot attempts, Widrick was able to put three on target, but each were stopped by the GC keeper.

The next 20 minutes of action were void of shot attempts, except for a pair of shots from Guilford's Saeed Saavedra. The first shot was blocked by the crossbar, and the second found the gloves of BC keeper Davis Bashore.

Medrano sent a shot on target in the 61st minute, but it was stopped by the GC keeper. Aside from a shot attempt from Widrick, the Eagles would not see another shot on target until Eugenio sent a shot high center in the 75th minute.

In the waning minutes, BC continued to increase the offensive pressure. Guilford's last shot attempt of the match came in the 83rd minute and was stopped by Bashore. Eugenio, Joshua Parker, and Caleb Malekzadeh ripped shot attempts, but were unable to score.

In the final minute of the match, the Eagles drew a foul on Guilford's Jeremy Pless, resulting in a free kick opportunity taken by Widrick. The Cary, N.C. native found the back of the net, ultimately winning the match for the Eagles.

Despite the final score, Bridgewater dominated the shots column. The Eagles mustered 20 shot attempts during the match compared to the Quakers eight. BC put 11 on target, while GC only had five on target.

The match was a physical one. 17 fouls were called (10 against BC, 7 against GC), and six yellow cards were handed out (2 against BC, 4 against GC).
