Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Eagles Soar Past Roanoke

SALEM, Va. - Bridgewater College women's volleyball stunned Roanoke on the road in a strong three-set win Thursday night.

The Eagles have accelerated to 6-2 in ODAC play with the help of multiple commanding 10-point scoring runs to secure the sweep against the Maroons. That is also their sixth straight win against the conference opponent in the last six matches.

The Basics

Score: Bridgewater (BCE) 3, Roanoke (RC) 0

Records: BCE (13-5 OVR, 6-2 ODAC), RC (9-9 OVR, 4-4 ODAC)

How It Happened

  • The Eagles found success quickly and never let up. In the first set, Roanoke got the match started with a service ace, but that was put to a stop for the very next point. Gabby Atwell received the loft by Lindsay Kelley to strike one down to tie it right back. BCE lunged ahead using a five-point scoring run to secure a close two-point lead. Once the Maroons saw the lead at 17-16, the run was quickly snuffed out and answered with a kill by Reagan Stoop. Faith DePew also had a hand on a strong attacking sequence and the Eagles broke away to get the first set, 25-23.

  • In the second set, BCE struck hard again and surged to a three-point run to start the set. Maya Veselinovic nailed back-to-back points, and Claire Griffith winded back to knock one down, making it 7-2. DePew and Agnes Alford helped launch a strong four-point run, keeping the Maroons away effectively. The second set was captured, 25-13.

  • BCE did not give RC a chance to breathe and pummeled the defense and took advantage of the ODAC opponent's negative third set hitting percentage and nine errors, respectively.  The Eagles closed the set and secured the dominant win off two of the strongest scoring runs of the season with a pair of 10-point scoring rallies to nail a 25-3 final set score.

Match Notes

  • Bridgewater took control dominantly on both sides of the ball. The Eagles only allowed the Maroons to score 39 points.

  • Faith DePew shined offensively with a match-high 13 kills on the night.

  • Agnes Alford was a wall at the net, posting six total blocks.
