Eagles Cruise Past Celtics for First Home Victory

BRIDGEWATER, Va. - The Bridgewater College men's basketball team took down the Carlow Celtics 83-62 Saturday afternoon.

The Basics

Score: Bridgewater 83, Carlow 62

Records: Bridgewater (2-2), Carlow (0-6)

How it Happened

  • Bridgewater opened the game with steals from Jahmir Brown on back-to-back possessions. Brown finished on both fastbreak opportunities through contact. Carlow converted in the paint off two offensive rebounds to even the score.

  • Coming out of the first media timeout of the game, Mi'Kis Engram drilled a 3-pointer to push the Eagles past double-digits. The Celtics continued to capitalize on attempts inside. Carlow's Clayton Cook made a layup despite being fouled by Mous Diop, sending him to the charity stripe. Cook was unable to convert the extra point opportunity. Carlow took their first lead of the game on a layup from Jordyn Tavarez.

  • Bridgewater took the lead from a Maleek Richardson layup. Carlow responded by going on a 6-0 run at the 12:08 mark, leading to BC's first timeout of the game.

  • Coming out of the timeout, both teams were unable to score for nearly a minute. Kyren Smith broke BC's two and a half minute scoring drought on an and-1. Smith converted the free throw to cut the Carlow lead to 18-16. Sbai Adnan drained a 3-pointer with 9:30 remaining in the half to give the Celtics their biggest lead of the game, and their final made field goal of the half.

  • After the Carlow lead increased to 23-18, Carter Palmer drained back-to-back threes to help the Eagles retake the lead. That sparked a 13-0 run for the Eagles that was interrupted by a couple of made free throws from Carlow with 3:51 remaining in the first half.

  • The Eagles erupted for a 13-2 run in the final three minutes of the first half. Diop scored the final points of the half on a second chance opportunity.

  • Carlow scored the first points of the second half, but Diop responded with a layup in the next possession.

  • The Eagles went on a 14-0 run with 14:50 remaining in the contest to make the score 63-36. A layup from Jimmy Giannetta with 11 minutes remaining broke the Carlow drought, but Lincoln Jackson threw one down off an assist from Chris Suber

  • Javon Jenkins knocked down a 3-pointer with 8:23 remaining in the contest. Carlow responded by going on a 6-0 run over the next 45 seconds. Jenkins broke the short BC scoring drought with a high-difficulty 3-pointer with 6:44 remaining.

  • Assisted by Ingram, Palmer sunk a 3-pointer with 4:52 remaining to help the Eagles reach the 80-point mark.

  • Suber sunk a floater with 2:37 remaining in the game to make the score 83-62.

Match Notes

  • Jahmir Brown led Bridgewater in scoring with 14 points. This was his third double-digit performance this season.

  • The Eagles looked to their reserves for more than half of their scoring production in the contest. The Eagles' bench was responsible for 46 points. Carter Palmer led the charge with 13 points. Palmer shot 5-7 from the field and went 3-4 from deep. Javon Jenkins and Jalen Deloatch added eight and seven points, respectively.
