Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men's Basketball Falls at Lynchburg

LYNCHBURG, Va. - Bridgewater College men's basketball fell to Lynchburg on the road with a final score of 94-70 Saturday afternoon.

The Bridgewater Eagles (BCE) drop to 4-3 overall and 1-1 in the second conference matchup of the season. The Lynchburg Hornets (ULH) improve their record to 6-3 overall and 2-0 in conference play.

How It Happened

In the second ODAC matchup of the season for both squads, BCE faced a tough offensive force in the Lynchburg Hornets on the road as ULH held onto a steady lead throughout the contest.

Through the first 20 minutes of play, LUH pounced on loose balls and executed well-spaced floor plays in set pieces and in second chance opportunities. The Hornets stormed to a commanding 11-point advantage in the first four minutes of action. As another three-point basket landed, ULH quickly ran up the lead to a strong 22-point ledger.

Halfway through the first half, the Hornets continued plunging forward without resistance. Despite a hard-fought three-point make by Javon Jenkins, Lynchburg found ways to remain unfazed and maintained a 16-point lead at 38-22 with 4:44 left in the first 20. The momentum could not be stopped for the rest of the first half, as the Hornets finished the half on a 9-0 scoring run to take a 49-29 lead after one.

In the second half, the Hornets hustled to second-chance opportunities to open the next 20 minutes with a sleek tip-in make. As time carried on, ULH did not let up. The score pushed to the largest lead of the day at the time of 3:49 left on the game clock with an enlarged 28-point lead. Then, the lead jumped to an even larger lead with yet another three-point basket a minute later.

Matt Hain appeared in the game for his first game of the season and put in a three-point shot to slightly fix the damage done. Jahmir Brown and Kyren Smith both attempted to ignite a small lead; however, the Hornets went on to surge ahead to finish with a 94-70 win on their home court.

Game Notes

  • Lynchburg had the advantage in both second-chance looks and total rebounds with a 17-4 difference in second-chance points and a 42-31 difference in total rebounds.

  • Kyren Smith was the lead scorer for the Eagles with 14 points including four boards, one dime, and one swipe in the contest.

  • Bridgewater went to their bench depth in this matchup, posting 45 bench points to Lynchburg's 22.
