Men's Lacrosse Falls to St. Vincent

BRIDGEWATER, Va. – Bridgewater College men's lacrosse team fell to St. Vincent 11-8 on Saturay afternoon in the program's home opener.

How It Happened
  • Bridgewater had chances to jump o the board early but the shot following the opening draw was turned aside by Garrett Ritts. St. Vincent responded quickly and capitalized on its first possession as the squads third hot found the back of the net to make it 1-0. BC responded an capitalized on a man-up opportunity as Finnegan Pulich found the back of the net to tie the game 1-1. Both teams traded chances down the stretch during the first quarter, but a turnover in the defensive end by the Eagles led to SVC finding the back of the net and taking a 2-1 lead after the opening frame. 
  • The Bearcats opened the second quarter with a quick tally and rode the momentum as they tallied the first three scores in the first five minutes of the second quarter to take a 5-1 lead. BC regrouped after caused turnover by Liam Santilli and Issac Beals found the back of the net after a dish fro Luke Wendler to cut into the deficit. Bridgewater registered two other quick tallies on a locked-in man advantage. Beals and Wendler each found the back of the net during the man-up chance to slice the lead to just a score at 5-4. Both teams had scoring chances in the final seven minutes of the half, neither side found the back of the net as both goalies stood strong in their cage. 
  • St. Vincent started the second half a man-up and capitalized to push the lead to two. The Bearcats added onto the lead quickly off the faceoff that followed as a diving pass and a shot made it 7-4. BC kept knocking on the door for the response score and finally broke through as Riley Stewart fired his shot home to make it 7-5. The Eagles kept rolling as Ryan Linn got in on the scoring as his tally ut the lead to just a single goal with 4:03 to go in the frame. The Bearcats had a reply with a pair of goals in 90 seconds to make it 9-6 after three quarters of play.
  • Bridgewater fell behind after another SVC tally opened the fourth quarter, but an Alex Garbarion tally with 8:49 to go in the frame got BC back on the board. Tyler Pinto added a tally on an assist from Linn with 5:07 to cut the lead to two at 8-10, but a tally by Saint Vincent with 4:42 to play sealed the deal for the Bearcats.
Match Notes
  • The Eagles were led by Beals offensively as he was the only Eagle with multiple tallies on the day. Wendler had a day with a goal and a trio of assists while Linn also had a multi-point effort with a tally and two helpers. Gabe Wallman made nine saves on 20 shots in the loss.
  • Jonathan Nagy tallied four goals and three assists for SVC. Liam McCall also had a day to remember with a hat trick and two helpers. Ritts made 11 saves for the Bearcats in the victory.
  • BC held an edge n the shot battle at a 41-30 mark, but the 11-9 edge in saves by the Bearcats made the difference. Bridgewater also capitalized on on both extra-man opportunities it had and SVC went 2-of-4.
