Men's Lacrosse Competes at No. 10 WLU

LEXINGTON, Va. – The Bridgewater College men's lacrosse team fell to No. 10 Washington and Lee 18-8 on Wednesday night.

How It Happened
  • Washington and Lee struck first 95 seconds in and looked to add on, but a CJ McKnight forced turnover flipped the field. BC struck just past the 12 minute marl as Luke Wendler found the back of the net on a dish from Tyler Pinto to even the score. The two sides traded punches and the Generals ultimately took the lead back after a failed Bridgewater clear attempt gave WLU a shot field to work with. The Generals registered a tally at the 8:38 mark and wasted no time as four goals in under two minutes gave the No. 10 team in the land a newfound 5-1 advantage. The Eagles had a response a moment later as Nico Marsicano scored in transition and BC got the final tally of the period as the teams traded a goal each to make it a 6-3 Generals' lead after 15 minutes of play.
  • WLU broke the game open in the second quarter with a pair of goals in the opening minute of the period. The Eagles killed off a man advantage for the Generals, but WLU struck just after the penalty expired after an offensive zone turnover by the Eagles to stretch the lead to 9-3. WLU found the back of the net two more times before the end of the half including with five seconds on the clock to take an 11-3 advantage to the locker room at the intermission. 
  • Bridgewater had a response after an early goal by Washington and Lee to start the second half as Jake Wagner scored un assisted to end a goal drought for BC and trim the lead down to eight. WLU responded with back-to-back tallies and had a chance for a third on a man advantage, but a save by Gabe Wallman and a successful clear led to a Liam Santilli score to make it 14-5. The Generals extended the lead right before the end of the period as a quick tally in transition made it 15-5 for the No. 10 team after 45 minutes of action.
  • The Generals scored in the opening 24 seconds of the fourth quarter, but a tally from Wagner off a dish by Pinto put the Eagles back in business. BC had multiple chances following the tally and cashed in on a man advantage as Wendler found the back of the net with a helper by Finnegan Pullich to cut the lead to nine. WLU responded with two goals in just over two minutes, but a failed clear by the Generals led to one final score as Pullich buried his shot on a pass from Issac Beals to round off the scoring. 
Match Notes
  • Wagner's hat trick led the Eagles offensively while Wendler, Pullich and Pinto all had multi-point efforts. Wallman made 16 saves in the cage for the crimson and gold.
  • Jack Elliott led the Generals with a hat trick as three WLU players tallied three points. JJ Kim led the Generals in the cage with five saves. 
  • WLU led the shot battle 56-32 and held a 52-24 edge in ground balls. BC did cash in at a 1-of-3 mark on the man advantage, while WLU did not score on its two chances.
