BRIDGEWATER, Va. - The Bridgewater College women's tennis team fell to Roanoke 5-2 on Sunday with tight matches all across the board.
The Maroons took the doubles point, but ti did not come easy. RC won at No. 3 4-6, but
Emma Staton and
Raea Crabill picked up a 6-4 victory at the No. 2 spot to send the doubles point to the top spot.
Sarah Slagle and
Jolexie Whetzel were in a fight that went all the way to the last possible point as they fell 6-7(5).
Singles play featured three matches that went the distance. Slagle battled all the way to the end as she fell 6-2, 2-6, 4-6 at the top spot and Staton reached the same verdict at the No. 3 slot by a 6-2, 2-6, 0-6 scoreline. Crabill got the Eagles on the board at the No. 4 spot as she went to a match tiebreak with the team-match already decided. The local product battled her way at the No. 4 spot to a 6-2, 2-6 11-9 victory.
Charlotte Weaver added to the cause as she worked her way to a 6-4, 6-3 victory at the No. 6 spot to round out the action.
BC is back in action on Saturday at Shenandoah.Â
