Box Score VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - The Bridgewater College women's tennis team fell to Virginia Wesleyan 6-1 on Sunday on the road.
The Marlins took the doubles point swiftly as they swept all three courts. BC's best effort in doubles came at the No. 2 spot as
Raea Crabill and
Emma Staton fell in a tight 3-6 battle.Â
VWU raced out of the gates in singles play, taking the top two matches. BC fought back at the bottom of the ladder as Staton had a tight opening set before falling 4-6, 1-6 at the No. 3 slot. Crabill and
Charlotte Weaver were locked in battles at the No. 4 and No. 6 spot respectively. Crabill fell in two tight sets 3-6, 4-6, while Weaver dropped her match at No. 6 5-7, 4-6.Â
BC's lone point came came at No. 5 as
Devon Wichael squeaked out a tiebreak that went the distance 7-6(5) and held on to a service break to take the second 6-3.Â
The Eagles are back in action on Tuesday as Mary Baldwin visits.
